ABOUT THE POSITION :

Hawai'i Preparatory Academy seeks a dedicated, experienced, and collaborative teacher to join our Upper School English Department as a full-time English teacher. The ideal candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm, and expertise to a range of English courses, including Advanced Placement English.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Teach five sections of Upper School English, including AP-level coursework.
  • Design and implement engaging, student-centered lessons that promote critical thinking, reading comprehension, and analytical writing.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning styles and student needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide timely feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum and best teaching practices.
  • Support interdisciplinary learning and encourage project-based experiences.
  • Serve as an advisor, mentor, and role model for students.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to departmental and school-wide initiatives.
  • Engage in all aspects of the residential school community, including athletic coaching, student advising, and supporting the boarding program.
  • Obtain and maintain proper licensure for driving a school vehicle as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience, including Advanced Placement English.
  • Strong content knowledge and passion for teaching English Language Arts.
  • Ability to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment.
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into instruction.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Master's degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience designing and modifying curriculum to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Experience with educational apps and software to support learning.
  • Interest in coaching or leading extracurricular activities.
  • Ability to be trained to drive a CDL school bus.
  • Physical Demands

  • Be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods.
  • Be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
