Under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Design, the Director of Curriculum Innovation :
- Standards and Curriculum : Provide learning leadership and system support with an achievement focus for all students in grades prekindergarten through grade 12. Lead the timely review and refinement of high quality state content and performance standards that are up-to-date, relevant, culturally responsive and aligned with research and evidence-based best practices. Ensure that schools have knowledge of and access to viable high quality curriculum that provides a comprehensive instructional program. Champion equitable and inclusive curriculum and instructional practices that address the needs of diverse student populations to close achievement gaps.
- Instructional Improvement and Professional Development : Provide guidance and support to educators for implementing effective instructional strategies and pedagogical techniques aligned to interdisciplinary and disciplinary areas of study. Organize and deliver professional development opportunities to enhance the capacity of the tri-level system, resulting in the enhancement of teachers' instructional skills that increase student achievement. Align professional development with national standards and best practices, including integration of technology.
- Program Development and Innovation : Lead the development of new educational programs and initiatives that address emerging trends and student needs. Provide agile and strategic leadership in the development of authorized courses for secondary schools that reflect innovation and expansion of student choices. Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of programs and make data-driven adjustments to optimize outcomes and meet goals.
- Assessment, Data Analysis, and Accountability : Build assessment literacy that articulates expectations and clarity on formative and summative processes, effective feedback, and grading practices that inform instruction and impact student progress. Analyze assessment data to identify trends, inform instructional guidance and program decisions. Ensure compliance with state and federal assessment requirements and reporting on a timely basis.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Communication : Build trust and maintain positive relationships with community, parent and educational organizations to foster collaboration and support for instructional programs. Foster partnerships with businesses and industry leaders to enhance career and technical education opportunities.
- Strategic Leadership and Operational Management : Strategically adapt to and shape change. Provide supervision and develop leadership skills in others by providing mentoring, coaching, and growth opportunities for educators and staff. Model reflection and integrity in decision-making processes and regularly examine actions to continuously improve while maintaining high ethical standards.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Education : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in education with specialization in one or more subject fields appropriate to the area(s) of assignment.
Education Substitution : Master's degree from an accredited college or university in any field plus two (2) additional years of relevant experience in a field appropriate to the area(s) of assignment.
Experience : Nine (9) years of responsible professional work experience of which four (4) years shall have been in teaching and five (5) years in curriculum or program planning, including two (2) years in supervision of professional personnel.
Desired Experience : Supervisory work experience including curriculum leadership and professional development facilitation.
Combined Education and Experience : An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
Knowledge : Foundations of curriculum and instruction; instructional media; principles of learning; curriculum design and development; educational statistics; laws, rules, regulations and administrative procedures pertinent to the areas of assignment.
Desired Knowledge : Foundations of assessment; effective intervention instructional strategies; principles and practices of educational leadership.
Ability to : Manage department-wide curriculum services; communicate effectively with others; operate computer and other business machines.
SALARY RANGE : EOSR-10, $124,812 to $176,687.
Department of Education certificated employees will be placed on the salary range in accordance with Department regulations.
WORK YEAR AND BENEFITS : This appointment will be on a 12-month basis with vacation and sick leave provided according to applicable regulations.
