What are the responsibilities and job description for the IP - Activity Chaperone position at Hawaii Tokai International College?
The International Programs Department (IP) of Hawaii Tokai International College invites qualified individuals to apply for its activity chaperone pool in 2023-2024. Successful candidates will be considered for temporary, casual positions for our short-term customized programs on an as needed basis. IP hosts program groups of different age groups throughout the year and an activity chaperone assists in excursion outing for those groups. Activity/field trip duration ranges from 2 to 13 hours a day. They are usually scheduled in either the morning or afternoon on weekdays and all day on weekends. The most chaperones are needed during the months of January through March and July through November.
Essential Functions:
1. Escort a group on a field trip ensuring their safety.
2. Effectively communicate with vendors, IP staff, accompanying teachers and/or the school bus driver during an activity.
3. Converse with students in English to improve their English skills.
4. Fill out a post-field trip report.
5. Work in partnership with other chaperons in the program.
6. Provide basic first aid assistance when needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Good communication skills
2. Good teamwork skills
3. A well-rounded knowledge of American culture and educational sightseeing places on Oahu
4. Understanding of and respect for a diversity of students and cultural backgrounds
Desired Qualifications:
1. Experience in working with international students of various age groups and language backgrounds
2. Overseas/cross-cultural experience
3. Work experience in a school setting especially with an international population
4. First Aid, CPR, AED certification
