What are the responsibilities and job description for the LLC - Tutor position at Hawaii Tokai International College?
Job Statement:
As a tutor, you will share your skills and knowledge with the students of HTIC and help them excel in their studies and in the acquisition of English as a second language. The tutors offer students the opportunity to receive assistance on assignments, discuss projects, clarify their understandings of readings and improve their English-language conversation abilities.
Essential Functions:
· Assists with writing assignments ranging from short paragraphs to research papers.
· Assists with reading skills such as reading comprehension
· Assists students with oral communication skills including rate, accuracy, and fluency
· Listen and provide feedback on student presentations
· Subject-specific tutors will also assist students in writing, reading and oral communication.
· Follows all guidelines, policies and procedures as written in the Tutor’s guide.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Junior level college student with a minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA and a major in TESL, English, or Mathematics equally relevant experience.
· Have a strong working knowledge of American English grammar.
· Excellent communication skills especially with regard to working with non-native speakers.
Desired Qualifications:
· Previous experience as a tutor.
· Interest in the education of international students.
· Previous experience working with non-native English-speakers or international students.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
· Be able to sit for duration of shift.
· Be detailed oriented and able to repeat same task often.
· Works in a controlled indoor environment.
