Community Service Specialist
Reports to: Program Manager

Responsibilities

The Community Services Specialist responsibilities include delivery of direct services and products to clients of Hawaiian Community Assets.

Service Delivery

  • Deliver financial and housing education group workshops
  • Conduct individualized financial coaching and housing counseling for clients enrolled in HCA’s Financial Opportunity Center (FOC) services
  • Provide case management for FOC clients, from client enrollment through exit from HCA match savings accounts and Hawaii Community Lending (HCL) loans
  • Refer clients to employment coaching, small business training, and additional resources and services to address their financial and housing needs
  • Identify rental deposit and down payment and closing cost assistance programs and resources
  • Conduct loan closings with qualified homebuyers and consumer loan borrowers

Marketing/Partnerships

  • Conduct outreach to promote the Financial Opportunity Center, HCA services and HCL loan products and mortgage assistance
  • Network to improve the presence and reputation of the branch and company with key stakeholders including, but not limited to, local residents, employment and small business service providers, housing developers, County agencies, and employers

Compliance/Quality Control

  • Address customer and employee satisfaction issues promptly
  • Adhere to high ethical standards, and comply with all regulations/applicable laws including National Industry Standards for HUD housing counseling agencies
  • Maintain communication with clients in accordance with HUD and USDA regulations and standards
  • Attend weekly/monthly team meetings with Program Manager and/or HCA Executive Staff to review client pipelines and participate in training
  • Sign and submit time sheets to Director of Programs for review and approval

Staff Training/Capacity Building

  • Share knowledge with other branches and headquarters on effective practices, competitive intelligence, business opportunities and needs
  • Engage with HCA and HCL co-workers to bring out the best of branch’s personnel by participating in training, coaching, development and positive motivation
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs

This is a 32-hour work week, 4 day, full-time position. This is a hybrid position open to qualified applicants who reside in Hawaiʻi.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office© computer programs (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher) and online platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Comfortable speaking one-on-one with individuals and in front of families and groups
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • HUD Certification in Homeownership Education and Counseling (secured within first 6 weeks of employment)
  • Ability to teach in group settings
  • Must be at least 18 and have a High School Diploma/GED

Preferred

  • Knowledge and understanding of Hawaiian culture and values
  • Experience in finance, housing, lending, or education
  • Case management: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of online platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams
  • Basic understanding of Hawaiian Home Lands
  • Willingness travel and work weekends and outside of regular office hours (M-F, 8a-5p) when necessary

Compensation

  • Salaried position: $60,000 annually
  • Paid Time Off after six months of employment
