JOB OVERVIEW:
The Superintendent in the Commercial Division is responsible for leading and managing the on-site construction team, overseeing all work on site, maintaining orderliness, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
The types of projects in our Commercial Division continue to be Hawaii’s most successful commercial projects that bring jobs to our state. Projects include hospitals, residential communities, and resort buildings throughout the islands.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for hiring, firing, training and supervision of field labor and subordinates; makes work assignments.
- Assists Project Manager and Project Engineers in scheduling work, checks work for compliance with contract specifications; provides daily review and consultation on work methods and progress in the field and provides technical supervision in specialty areas. Ensures project schedule using P-6, P-3 or Microsoft Projects is updated as needed.
- Schedules subcontractor work to coincide with general contractor; checks performance of subcontractor work; assures optimum utilization of labor force for subcontractor work.
- Responsible for determining requirements for supplies, materials, and equipment; schedules delivery, distribution, and utilization thereof.
- Is knowledgeable and utilizes production and equipment cost information done on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis against the project schedule.
- Maintains constant communications with contracting agency (or owner, architect, or engineer) representative with respect to performance of the work.
- Responsible for the profitability of project operations productivity.
- Attends pre-job meetings with supervisory staff, foremen, stresses importance of production, quality, and cost on the project.
- Maintain safe and fair working environment.
- Assists with project documentation and preparation of final closeout report.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5 years' experience, preferably 10 years, in construction, with at least 5 of those years as a superintendent on projects of similar size and complexity.
- Preferred experience in Concrete/Precast or Wood Framing work.
- Familiar with requirements of EM 385-1-1 and have experience in the areas of hazard identification and safety compliance.
- Capable of interpreting a critical path schedule and construction drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
