GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, repairs and maintains through general and preventative maintenance, hospital and clinic buildings, grounds, and equipment. Adheres to the mission and values and standards of excellence of Hawarden Regional Healthcare in all aspects of job performance.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

1.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Hawarden Regional Healthcare standards. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, and HRH policies and procedures, including all provisions of the Health Insurance Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). In order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior by implementing the organizational vision, values, and mission.

2.

Has knowledge, skills and ability to accomplish most tasks in the areas of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, electronics and grounds.

3.

Safely uses complex hand and power tools and safely operates more complex equipment without immediate and direct supervision for most tasks in accordance with the design and the recognized usage for the equipment.

4.

Prioritizes tasks to insure that the most critical work is accomplished first.

5.

Researches parts and materials needed to complete tasks.  Prepares purchase requisitions, receives deliveries, and organizes stock items.

6.

Assists other department personnel and departments as assigned in more complex tasks, often initiating them in response to identified needs.

7.

Completes documentation and paper work as necessary to demonstrate effectiveness of time management, and to maintain an accurate and complete work history database.

8.

Functions as a member of the Physical Plant Services team through cooperation with other department personnel while maintaining a team approach to problem solving.

9.

Performs preventive maintenance & safety tests on equipment and systems according to established procedures and schedules.

10.

Performs routine maintenance and other repairs requested by personnel.

11.

Recognizes and communicates issues / occurrences utilizing established lines of authority, and assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes.

12.

Removes trash and biohazard containers to proper locations outside the facility.

13.

Handles on call responsibilities with timeliness, efficiencies, and proper attitude.

14.

Demonstrates general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)

15.

Actively participates in departmental meetings, committees, conferences, and in services. Is knowledgeable of and complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies & Procedures. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as requested. Keeps up to date on new procedures and research. Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, physicians, employees and HRH business.

16.

Completes all mandatory training such as Healthstream, The Patient Experience, Safe Choices, Crucial Conversations and any other training as designated by Administration.

17.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications


1. High school graduate or GED.

2. Must have a minimum of three years prior experience, preferably in a health care setting.

3. Able to demonstrate the ability to perform the tasks normally associated with at least two

of the traditional building trade groups and to work at those tasks with effectiveness, speed and quality of work as per established industry standards. Demonstration may be through a combination of documented prior work performance and real time testing. (Traditional building trades include carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC mechanic and general mechanic.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

1.  Must successfully pass pre-employment physical examination, drug screening, and must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives.

2.  Primarily works inside with frequent walking, standing, bending and occasional lifting    

up to 75 pounds.

3.   Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to environmental elements, such

as inclement weather, dust, noise, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, and infectious disease.

4. Regular and physical attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
