Position Overview:
The Hawbridge School is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, and dedicated Science Teacher to join our Upper School team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching Earth and Environmental Science, Advanced Placement Environmental Science, and Physical Science in a place-based, outdoor learning environment. The teacher will be responsible for designing and delivering a rigorous and engaging science curriculum that emphasizes inquiry-based learning, environmental literacy, and real-world problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach Earth & Environmental Science, AP Environmental Science, and Physical Science to upper school students (grades 9-12).
- Develop and implement hands-on, inquiry-driven lessons that incorporate outdoor learning experiences and environmental awareness.
- Foster a classroom environment that promotes curiosity, critical thinking, collaboration, and scientific literacy.
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and technologies to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including differentiation for students at various academic levels.
- Prepare students for AP exams in Environmental Science and support their academic and personal growth.
- Engage students in projects that connect science content to real-world environmental issues.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities and support student success.
- Actively participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events.
- Support the school’s mission by integrating environmental sustainability, outdoor education, and community involvement into lessons and activities.
- Maintain clear communication with students, parents, and school administration regarding student progress, behavior, and classroom activities.
- Provide academic guidance and support to students through individual and group consultations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Science, Environmental Science, Education, or a related field.
Teaching certification in Science (or equivalent) preferred.
Experience teaching Earth & Environmental Science, AP Environmental Science, and/or Physical Science in a secondary school setting.
Strong understanding of place-based and outdoor learning strategies.
Passion for environmental education and fostering an appreciation for the natural world.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive school culture.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Comfort with using technology and outdoor learning tools in the classroom.
A desire to mentor and inspire students to develop both academically and personally.
