Middle School Science Teacher

DEGREE REQUIRED: CA Single Subject Credential

Credentials in Both Math and Science

Self-contained/Multiple Subject or Math and Science

Bachelor’s Degree required

Purpose:

The Math/Science teacher provides a high quality, personalized education program for students in middle school grades 7-8.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Organizes classroom systems/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged.

2. Establishes a culture of high expectations that includes college preparation for all students.

3. Develops and implements lesson plans and classroom activities consistent with California State Standards.

4. Assesses students regularly, examines student assessment data, and refines classroom activities to differentiate instruction for each student.

5. Collaborates with grade-level team members to improve own and others’ instructional practices; shares best practices.

6. Actively participates in professional development activities, including: training sessions and working with lead teacher, principal, instructional coaches.

7. Provides students and their families with regular and timely information on classroom activities and student progress; finds ways to involve parents/guardians in their students’ education.

8. Tracks critical student information and maintains accurate student records, including attendance, in accordance with school procedures.

9. Identifies unique student needs and collaborates with other team members and outside service providers to, and addresses learning challenges.

10. Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, of our schools mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.

11. Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Physical Demands:  

1. Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read a variety of documents; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment; sitting for extended periods of time; bending, stooping or kneeling; lifting to 30 pounds.

2. Ability to move around the office, classroom and around campus. Sitting is done at the desk with forward bending from the waist, leaning on the forearms, and looking down which requires neck flexion. It is necessary to grasp and manipulate pens, markers, scissors, staplers, etc., either occasionally or frequently, depending on the day. May occasionally have to climb or balance on step-ladders.

3. May use computers, overhead projectors, Interactive whiteboards, etc. which would require a 10-pound force to push or pull the projector stand. The overhead projector requires 5 pounds of force to move.When working with equipment it may also be necessary to forward bend, squat, and/or kneel.

Work Environment:  

1. Classroom environment with multiple interruptions.

2. This position works in a variety of settings including office, classroom and outdoors and may experience heat or cold extremes as well as fumes, odors, dust, noise level is moderate to loud.

Salary : $62,920 - $111,280
