Purpose Statement:
The Associate Principal is an educational leader who works collaboratively with the school leadership team to support the Principal in leading the faculty in a collaborative focus on student learning. The role of the Associate Principal is to provide visionary leadership and demonstrate exemplary management skills in the development of faculty, the implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum, and the provision of effective communication with all of the school’s stakeholders. The Associate Principal provides positive leadership in both the social well-being and measurable academic growth of all children. The Associate Principal will assist with administrative responsibilities that strengthen and expand the breadth of support to students, teachers, and parents. The Associate Principal is also part of a school-wide instructional leadership team jointly responsible for the systematic development and implementation of programs that fulfill the mission of Hawkins County Schools “igniting a lifelong passion for learning”.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Adheres to and enforces board policy, school guidelines, administrative directives, and district standards.
- Enforces guidelines to maintain proper discipline and conduct.
- Communicates relevant policies and procedures regarding student discipline, conduct, and attendance to students, staff, and parents.
- Works with and assists faculty in the development of effective classroom discipline and organization.
- Maintains an effective and safe school environment.
- Assists Building Principal with emergency drills on a regular basis and can implement emergency evacuations and lockdowns effectively.
- Prepares required reports and paperwork.
- Assists in the selection and mentoring of staff.
- Supervises and evaluates certified staff as assigned.
- Supervises support services as assigned.
- Assists in the development of an instructional budget.
- Works as a team member to meet the system-wide needs of the district.
- Assists in supervision of special events.
- Assists in the care and management of the building and grounds, and inventory of furniture, equipment, and books, and supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or District Administrator
- Model and encourage a culture of kindness, integrity, and positivity.
- Communicate promptly, clearly, and effectively with teachers, students, and parents about school goals and procedures.
- Mentor all faculty, as well as encourage their professional growth and provide on-site professional development workshops linked to school-wide goals.
- Model traits that enable others to recognize the Associate Principal as a leader.
- Participate in and lead committee work, as well as be a contributing member of the Administrative Team (e.g., Strategic Plan, Focus Group work, PLC meetings)
- Collaboratively develop schedules and reporting structures for faculty and students.
- Contribute to the development of teaching curriculum aligned standards, documentation that specifies content and skills are being taught with appropriate instructional methods, and review assessment practices and assessment results that determine whether curriculum, instructional goals and student performance outcomes are being met.
- Collaborate with the principal in developing the leadership capabilities of teachers so that instructional leadership becomes a shared responsibility.
- Tutor students in the Zearn Math program.
Capacity and Ability Requirements:
The usual job demands require the following physical requirements: some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, some stooping, kneeling, and physical dexterity.
Terms of Employment:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the district’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the district.
Evaluation:
The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
