Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or health related field
- Registered Nurse licensure, Tennessee
- Current CPR certification
- Prior professional nursing experience, preferably school nursing, pediatric, adolescent, community health nursing and health program management.
Purpose Statement:
The Director of Health Services coordinates the school health program including the delivery of services to students and staff members in order to enhance health and wellness in the school setting, complying with Tennessee State School Health Guidelines, providing leadership and supervision of all school nurses, system wide health educator and administrative assistant.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Implementation of school health services policies and procedures according to the Tennessee State School Health Guidelines and assurance that such policies and related procedures adhere to legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards of nursing practice
- Coordination of screening programs and immunization review adhering to Tennessee State Guidelines
- Responsible for State Immunization audits per state guidelines
- Collaborates with staff, parents, students and health care providers for the purpose of promoting and/or securing student health services, providing information and complying with legal requirements
- Assesses the health and safety needs of the school environment in compliance with OSHA guidelines, implementing the Bloodborne Pathogen Control Plan
- Provides training to staff on a variety of health related topics for the purpose of promoting health in the school setting. Provides In-service training and opportunities for nursing staff and health educator.
- Coordination of CPR/AED and First Aid training for staff system wide per AHA guidelines.
- Implementing AEDs in the schools. Responsible for coordinating individual school’s AED plans, maintaining and updating records and staff training.
- Participates in meetings, workshops, seminars and interdisciplinary teams for sharing information on student’s health needs, service delivery, educational programs and/or improving skills and knowledge
- Serves as a liaison regarding medical issues of students, communicating with families and physicians.
- Serves on Truancy board as time permits
- Supervises school nurses for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school health program.
- Responsible for nurse substitute workshops and coverage as needed when nurses are off.
- Oversees and manages the Health Services annual budget
- Documentation and compilation of data for End of year CSH School Health Services Survey Report
- Provides school nurse services in the school setting as directed
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Schools

The usual job demands required the following physical requirements: some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and physical dexterity.
Terms of Employment:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the district’s approved compensation plan. The length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the district.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Hawkins County School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
