What are the responsibilities and job description for the CONSUMER LOAN OFFICER position at Hawthorn Bank?
Summary
Originate, underwrite and close consumer loans in accordance with established lending objectives, policies and procedures; establish and maintain positive relationships with existing and potential customers, by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Screen preliminary loan requests in one or more of the following areas (e.g., consumer, automobile, home equity line of credit, mobile home loans, overdrafts, credit card consolidation, and credit cards); interview consumer loan applicants, reviews truth-in-lending and other required disclosures with customers; obtain customer signatures on loan application.
Order credit report; calculate loan to value ratios, principal, and interest to income, and all payments to income to determine feasibility of loan and proper loan category; compute loan payments to include principal and interest; may discuss loan approval with supervisor; contact customers regarding questions/ concerns; makes decisions; notifies customer; quotes rate and term of loan; obtain documentation needed for loan file; closes approved loans; sends required documentation regarding denied loans; provides suggestions for ways to improve credit rating.
Assist customers with inquiries and information requests and resolve complaints relating to loan products and services offered.
Record complaints in tracking software.
Participate in the collection procedures and processes of the loan officers to assure the timely collection of all delinquent accounts and develop revised loan repayment terms or schedules as necessary.
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with loan customers and other organizations to provide information regarding the lending programs and policies. Contact potential customers to sell consumer loan products and services; make regular calls to automobile dealership staff to facilitate indirect lending.
Participate in the Bank's business development activities, represent the Bank in industry and professional associations, community organizations, local business groups, etc., and promote the Bank's favorable image.
Comply with all banking regulations, policies and procedures.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Maintain education and professional expertise through attendance at job related seminars, conferences and workshops.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
Possess a four-year degree from an accredited university or institution with a major area of study in business administration, accounting, finance, or other closely related field. Professional work experience as a loan officer may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Possess at least two years of professional work experience as a loan officer or comparable position.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public both face-to-face and over the telephone.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must have the ability to operate the following equipment: telephone, PC and printer, copy machine, and fax machine.
Must have working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing, and database software programs.
