Nurse Advocate

Role Description
The Registered Nurse (RN) at Hawthorne Foundation Inc. is responsible for providing high-quality care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, knowledge of OPWDD regulations, and experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities:

1. Ensure retention, review, and maintenance of each individual's health records and immunization records.
2. Evaluate physical examinations by physicians to ensure compliance with OPWDD regulations.
3. Aquire all required medical and health-related documentation.
4. Physically assess individuals to recognize normal and abnormal variations.
5. Participate in team conferences and individual program planning for each individual.
6. Document changes in medical status to ensure completeness and comprehensiveness.
7. Provide first aid as needed.
8. Counsel and teach individuals, their families, and educational staff on topics such as personal hygiene, family life, dental care, sex education, and safety education.
9. Teach and train staff to ensure they are adequately informed.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN).
2. Current RN licensure in the state of New York.
3. Knowledge and experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
4. Sensitivity to the needs of individuals, their families, and personnel.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
