General Summary


The Department of Mental Health, Tewksbury Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Registered Nurse VI, ADON to work with resilient patients navigating their journey on the road to recovery.


Please note: this position is 40 hours per week, 1st shift, days off are Saturday and Sunday


Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):


  • Provides 24 hour clinical and administrative supervisory responsibilities for the psychiatric inpatient units and ensures the excellence of nursing services provided through the application of the nursing process to patient care management and patient advocacy for units.

  • Oversees and provides clinical supervision to Nursing Supervisors, as well as unit nursing personnel, through consultations, assessments, evaluation and outcome management.

  • Acts as cost center manager, in coordination with the Unit Nurse Managers, to develop and implement staffing plans, which provide quality, cost-effective patient care while carefully monitoring the use of unit overtime and its conformance to the DMH overtime budget.

  • Ensures that the orientation of new employees is done in an efficient and timely manner. Collaborates with the Staff Development Department to schedule and present programs to educate and train staff regarding issues related to mental illness.

  • Ensures quality nursing care is provided based on hospital, departmental and certification standards.

  • Contributes to the overall policy development and management of the Department of Nursing.

  • Assumes responsibilities of Director of Nursing in his/her absence.

  • Contributions to effective interpersonal and community relations to ensure the quality of patient care and to promote a positive image of the Hathorne Mental Health Units.

  • Performs other nursing duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3-5 years Psychiatric Nursing experience
  • Given the population we serve, bilingual or multilingual fluency

About Tewksbury Hospital:

Tewksbury Hospital operates a 370-bed facility and a campus of over 700 acres of land. Its patient care services are provided under the auspices of the Department of Public Health and Mental Health. Joint Commission accredited LTAC hospital that provides high quality, comprehensive treatment, care, and comfort to adults with chronic medical and mental illness. A full range of services are provided including 24/7 Nursing, Nurse Practitioners, Medicine as well as psychiatric and psychological services, a 6- bed dialysis unit, clinical laboratory, radiology, respiratory care, nutrition, speech/language, pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, therapeutic recreation and arts, and pharmacy.

Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic, or medical facility and (B) of which at least two years must have been in a supervisory, administrative, or managerial capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

1. A Graduate degree with a major in nursing may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*

No substitutions will be allowed for the required (B) experience.

  • Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.*

  • Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.

Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
