What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Hayes Manufacturing?
SUMMARY: Responsible for preparing the full estimates on large and complex projects as required by client’s for a complete conceptual and total bid price.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reviews and evaluates requests for estimates.
- Ensures timely completion of estimates and holds weekly bid review meetings.
- Prepare estimates used by management or customers for purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work.
- Develops a basic schedule for purpose of supplying lead time to customer for quote.
- Reviews estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy.
- Executes take-offs of construction documents.
- Obtains pricing for materials through coordination with the Purchasing Department.
- Informs of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.
- Perform PO to bid comparison for accuracy and changes.
- Creates job folders.
- Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work to bid.
- Inputs take-offs into computer spreadsheet.
- Checks and/or approve alternate drafters’ drawings within the scopes of regulatory and industry standards.
- Obtains bids from subcontractors if needed.
- Conduct a PO hand off meeting with assigned project manager
- Other duties as assigned by the VP of Operations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage and to draw and interpret graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- To perform the job successfully, an individual should be proficient with estimating software and spreadsheet software and should have knowledge of word processing software, e-mail software and the use of the Internet.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety rules and regulations
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree or five to eight years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
