Summary
Under general direction of the Health Department Manager the Community Outreach Specialist assists in the development and implementation of the Hays County Health Department Community Outreach Program. The Community Outreach Specialist will promote, coordinate, and analyze group and community public health interventions in order to increase access of equitable health care to vulnerable communities in Hays County.

- Under the direction of the Health Department Manager, will assist in the creation and execution of an overall plan for community outreach and engagement, including raising awareness about the organization, and the development of engagement and partnership pathways for individuals and organizations that align with our mission and vision.
- Regularly analyze the community to identify opportunities to grow the Outreach Program.
- Represents Hays County in community initiatives and at events that support our goals and strategies.
- Assists in the creation and distribution of program marketing materials including flyers, fact sheets, program information, reports, and a programmatic newsletter to target the intended audience.
- Participates in outreach in the community including, but not limited to, going door to door in neighborhoods, businesses, churches, etc.
- Ensures that vulnerable community members have an improved access to health care services and increased access to health screening opportunities.
- Works with the Health Department Manager to ensure an increase in understanding among county citizens regarding available health and social service programs.
- Supports and encourages community health activities that enhance the visibility of the Hays County Health Department.
- Assists in planning and attends community outreach events that focus on the low income, underinsured, and marginalized residents of Hays County.
- Leads educational meetings and attends community events.
- Participates in networking and collaborating with local organizations and community leaders.
- Works to foster positive and collaborative relationships with community residents, local nonprofit organizations, businesses, and student organizations.
- Works directly with the Health Department Manager in goal setting, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
