Summary
Provides electronic/computer support to the Elections Office. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, testing, programming, maintenance, and data management regarding equipment used in elections. Is responsible for warehousing/physical storage of that equipment; also assists in other election-related activities.
- Assists in planning and implementing processes to be carried out by the Elections Office.
- Enters, maintains, and updates information in multiple software applications, including Microsoft Office and specialized third-party software for mapping, election management, etc.
- Is responsible for installation and maintenance of election-related equipment in the Elections Office: voting machines, computer terminals, printers, scanners, laptops, memory cards, and other auxiliary equipment.
- Assists coworkers and the public with internal system problems (troubleshooting).
- Performs recovery operations when a computer or other equipment fails.
- Contacts vendors with pertinent information in case of program or equipment malfunctions; coordinates with vendors to resolve hardware/software problems.
- Performs back-up procedures for programs and files.
- Maintains electronic/computer databases; keeps physical files and equipment inventories; and maintains a backup tape library.
- Monitors usage of disk space and other system resources.
- Generates system reports and other documentation; may prepare correspondence.
- May train, or serve as a resource to, other office staff and to the public.
- Monitors equipment storage and maintains an inventory of all items.
- Assists with moving, pickup, and delivery of equipment to polling sites.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in computer science or a computer related field plus one year of data processing experience including experience in computer operations and peripheral equipment; or
- graduation from high school plus three years of experience in the operation of computers and peripheral equipment;
- or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Current valid Texas Drivers License.
- Will be subject to a criminal history background check.
