What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney position at HaysMed?
Position Summary: The Staff Attorney supports Hays Medical Center, Inc.’s Chief Legal Officer in providing legal counsel and guidance on various healthcare related issues for Hays Medical Center, Inc. (“HaysMed”) and Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Inc. (“PVCH”), reviewing contractual agreements, and participating in meetings and serving on committees as requested by the Chief Legal Officer. The Staff Attorney also leads and supports in other matters as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer.
Responsibilities:
As requested by the Chief Legal Officer, the Staff Attorney shall:
- Research and analyze laws, rules, regulations, legal decisions, and administrative rulings;
- Prepare written legal opinions and memoranda;
- Research, investigate, and remediate legal and corporate compliance issues;
- Develop and conduct risk assessments as needed to support the efforts of HaysMed’s Corporate Compliance Program;
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents;
- Perform legal and factual research necessary to draft and analyze various contracts, policies, and other documents;
- In collaboration with Corporate Compliance staff, develop compliance policies and procedures and other documents;
- Assist in promoting efficiency of the legal department by preparing templates, forms, outlines, instructional materials, and other tools and resources;
- Focus on various regulatory and compliance issues, fraud and abuse, and reimbursement, including licensing, the Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, HIPAA/HITECH and Medicare/Medicaid;
- Develop and conduct in-house presentations for training or professional development; and
- Provide assistance to and work with the Chief Legal Officer on various projects
Qualifications:
Required:
- A Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-approved law school
- Be an active member in good standing of the Bar
- A license to practice law in the state of Kansas
Preferred:
- 2-4 years of healthcare experience
Infection Control: This position will include initial and ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Training could include but is not limited to blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, and biohazardous materials, as it applies to your daily work environment.
