Position Summary: The Health unit coordinator performs a variety of clerical duties associated with patient care unit operations.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains patient charts and profiles by assembling, processing, documenting and auditing.
- Provides clerical support to the unit with the use of office equipment including telephone, computer, call light system, instant messaging services, wireless communication, pneumatic tube station and intercom.
- Prepares medical records and forms including consents, permits and order sets.
- Assists with daily staffing by utilizing the electronic staffing system.
- Responsible for maintaining unit’s inventory of supplies and equipment by ordering, receiving, distributing, sorting and preparing reports related to supplies/equipment.
- Greets, directs and informs customers/patients of hospital services; and assists with inquiries concerning community services
- Serves as a customer service liaison between patients and other healthcare members (internal and external).
Qualifications:
Required:
- Ability to type and manage stress through effective communication and multitasking.
- Ability to deal understandingly and tactfully with ill patients and their families.
- Ability to maintain working relationships with Associates.
- BLS certification required or must be completed within the first two weeks of employment.
Preferred:
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Medical terminology, business communication, and experience with computers.
- National Association of Health Unit Coordinators credential.
Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.
