Audit Specialist - Internal Government and Non-Profit Audits

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Audit Specialist to handle internal audits for a variety of government and non-profit clients. This role is not primarily standard financial and compliance audits. Instead, forensic, performance, and operational audits are the focus. As an Audit Specialist, you will collaborate with government and non-profit agencies. Your expertise will help identify a variety of risks and opportunities, ultimately improving overall financial and operational performance.

 

The Audit Specialist position is part of the audit team within a mid-sized CPA firm in Fresno. The firm is growing and this newly created position is in place to handle the high number of Forensic, IT, Performance, Integrity, and other audits that fall outside their audit core. Qualifications and Skills:

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience conducting internal or external audits for government agencies or public sector organizations

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. CPA, CIA, or CISA certification preferred.

• Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in audit software, data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite

• Knowledge: Thorough understanding of government accounting principles, GAAP, and applicable regulations

• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Independence: Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with local, state, or federal government operations

• Experience with performance audits or compliance reviews

• Proven track record of identifying process inefficiencies and recommending practical solutions
