Job Title : School Psychologist Paraeducator

Supervisor : Director of Special Services and Building Administrator

Rate of Pay : According to USD 261 Classified Rate of Pay Scale

Job Summary :

A School Psychologist Paraducator works under a licensed school psychologist and has special training in conducting assessments and working with children, teachers, and parents to make the school experience a positive and rewarding one. The school psychologist special education paraeducator provides support to the school psychologist and other special education staff in the area of assessment and evaluation, record review, computer-based observation. The individual must maintain professionalism at all times.

Qualifications and Requirements :

  • High School diploma or equivalent; baccalaureate degree, preferably in psychology or education.
  • If candidate does not have a baccalaureate degree, one of the following endorsements :
  • Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 college hours) or have a minimum of an associate degree.
  • Demonstrate knowledge through formal assessment, [e.g. ParaPro Assessment (former assessment) or The Paraeducator Learning Network Assessment (current assessment) within one year from date of hire].
  • Maintain current TB testing as required by Health Department regulations (after employment offer is made).

Performance Responsibilities :

  • Assist the assigned school psychologists in administering individual tests to help determine specific academic and behavioral needs of students.
  • Provide the assigned school psychologists observational data to be used when determining individual needs of students.
  • Assist the assigned school psychologists in creating a service schedule to ensure that timelines are met.
  • Assist the assigned school psychologists in maintaining an inventory of materials, tests and supplies and in creating modified materials for classroom use.
  • Assists in the creation of the special education department calendar and document folder to
  • support the communication from the special education department.

  • Gather assessment data for purposes of accommodations needed on district and state assessments.
  • Gather teacher and staff reports for the purpose of collecting data being used in evaluations.
  • Review and maintain school psychologists and transition files for purposes of record review and documentation.
  • Prepare and develop special education student files for the dissemination of records and Individualized Education Program documents.
  • Navigate the Individualized Education Program database for purposes of uploading and accessing Individualized Education Program documents.
  • Maintain appropriate, confidential records and release confidential student information to only those providers with a clear educational need to know.
  • Assist school psychologists in scheduling meetings, obtaining educational records for students new to the district, and preparing forms and paperwork prior to scheduled meetings.
  • Schedule student meetings with outside agencies to address the transition needs for students receiving special education services.
  • Consult with special education staff on student status in special education.
  • Communicate effectively with students and providers in assigned buildings.
  • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Support the value of education.
  • Demonstrates dependability, promptness, and regular attendance in order to establish consistent routines, promote teamwork, and guarantee instructional continuity.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding student and staff information in order to remain in compliance with legal requirements and to maintain a professional working environment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Services, principal and school psychologists which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.

    Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-pace, high-intensive work environment.
