Special Education Interpreter (Para Interpreter)
This position provides interpreting and transliteration services for deaf consumers and hearing consumers to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
Essential Functions:
- Provide interpreting and/or transliteration services in social and academic settings, including direct and overheard conversations, class instruction, lectures, tests, assemblies, and field trips.
- Facilitate communication through sign language, spoken English, cultural mediation, and knowledge about accessibility.
- Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information relative to job functions.
- Communicate with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to assist in evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
- Provide instruction to students in individual and group activities under the supervision of assigned teacher.
- Educate consumers about using interpreting services and providing visual access to deaf and hard of hearing students.
- Demonstrate dependability, promptness, and regular attendance to establish consistent routines and promote teamwork.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information to remain in compliance with legal requirements.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Demonstrates required mobility, agility, and dexterity to work with students.
- Able to move, lift, pull, or push objects.
- Remains attentive to students in noisy, crowded environments with numerous interruptions.
