Primary Purpose of Position
The Technology Support Specialist (Digital Navigator) role provides individualized or small group assistance to community members who need affordable home internet service, affordable internet-capable devices, and/or coaching in introductory digital skills to become effective home internet users and be able to participate online fully. This is a part-time, time-limited, and grant-funded position working up to 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday. The schedule would be primarily afternoon hours working at off campus community sites within Haywood County. Applicant must have reliable transportation and have a satisfactory motor vehicle report.
Essential Job Duties
- Work with clients to determine their internet and digital literacy needs.
- Advise clients about options for internet access and devices.
- Develop and teach classes for digital literacy at HCC and designated off-campus locations.
- Work with external organizations and committees to help support their goals of digital literacy within Haywood County and the region.
- Protect all personal identifying information for each student while on-campus or other designated locations.
- Maintain student and course records per HCC and grant procedures.
- Assist with recruiting new students into the program.
- Manage and maintain equipment and supplies with inventory control.
- Generate data and outcome reports for grant reporting purposes.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree within information technology or closely related program. Must have reliable transportation and satisfactory background report.

- Typical office devices such as printers and smartphones
- Ability to troubleshoot common technology issues and provide professional client support by phone, email, text, video chat, instant message, or in-person.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree within information technology or closely related program. Previous instructional and/or technology help desk experience

Including the required skills above, have general knowledge of:
