Position Description:

 

The Director of Mathematics serves as a content expert in mathematics for grades K-12 ensuring continuity and quality of instructional delivery in the elementary literacy classroom. The Director will lead and facilitate the development and implementation of the district’s mathematics framework, including classroom learning experiences, associated district initiatives and corresponding professional development support. This position works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to further the district’s early literacy agenda locally and regionally.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides vision and leadership in the area of mathematics to enhance instructional delivery, accelerate student learning, and increase operational effectiveness
  • Develops and implements an effective district wide program of supervision and support for mathematics teachers, leaders, and central office supports.
  • Works with principals and other district administrators to support the successful implementation of the district’s literacy program including lesson plan development, instructional delivery, and coaching support
  • Coordinates structured learning walks to provide ongoing feedback and continuous support to schools
  • Monitors Academic Support Plans providing guidance to schools around instructional strategies for academic remediation and improvement
  • Directs and coordinates the work of key personnel to build content knowledge and skills of mathematics teachers and education assistants
  • Responds to written and verbal inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of identifying the projects impacting district instructional practices and changes that will improve teacher effectiveness
  • Monitors budget allocations, expenditures, and fund balances for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, revenues are recorded, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed
  • Collaborate and advise community partner organizations and local universities on behalf of the District
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited educational institution with certification in Administration, Supervision preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful mathematics teaching experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful teacher leader or district-office leader experience

  • Skill in developing data-supported solutions and using fact-based logic and the ability to translate complex analysis in an easy-to-understand manner and present to a broad audience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to tackle the operational challenges in a complex, changing political and educational environment
  • Ability to manage daily administrative tasks without losing sight of long-term goals and planning.
  • Demonstrated ability in excellent execution and project management skills, including ability to balance the big picture with detailed steps
  • Outstanding critical thinking skills, including the ability to analyze data, identify trends, pinpoint problems and root causes, and develop innovative solutions
  • Knowledge of research and best practices in providing support to teachers
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully; develop alternative solutions; work well in group problem-solving situations; use reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Exhibit objectivity and openness to others' views; gives and welcomes feedback; contributes to building a positive team spirit; puts success of team above own interests; able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives; supports everyone's effort to succeed.
