Job Summary:
Haywood County Schools is seeking a skilled and dedicated Bookkeeper to join our team. The Bookkeeper will play a crucial role in managing financial records, budgets, and transactions for an individual school. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational and mathematical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for the school district, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries.
Budget Management: Assist in the development and monitoring of the school district's budget. Track expenditures, analyze variances, and provide regular financial reports to school administrators and stakeholders.
Accounts Payable and Receivable: Process invoices, purchase orders, and reimbursements. Prepare and issue checks for payments. Monitor outstanding balances and follow up on overdue accounts receivable.
Payroll Administration: Coordinate payroll processes, including verifying timesheets, calculating salaries, and ensuring timely and accurate payment to school employees. Collaborate with the Finance Officer to maintain employee payroll records.
Financial Reporting: Prepare and present financial reports to school administrators. Summarize financial status, trends, and variances from the budget.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant federal, state, and local regulations related to school district finances. Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and government regulations.
Collaboration: Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and staff to provide financial support and guidance. Address financial inquiries and provide assistance as needed.
Record Retention: Maintain organized and secure financial records in accordance with school district policies and legal requirements. Prepare records for audits and assist auditors as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, laminators, etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical requirements are consistent with those for Sedentary Work.

Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
Interpersonal Communication:
Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors.

Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English.
Numerical Aptitude:
Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; and to determine percentages and decimals.
Form/Spatial Aptitude:
Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape.
Motor Coordination:
Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using automated office equipment.
Manual Dexterity:
Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Interpersonal Temperament:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress.
Physical Communication:
Requires the ability to talk and hear : (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via telephone.

Qualifications:
- Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of North Carolina school finance regulations and procedures is a plus.
