Patient Safety Sitter

• Managed By: Director of Security, Telecommunications, and Emergency Management
• Shift Structure:
• Day Shifts: Adam & Baker Squads
• Night Shifts: Charlie & David Squads
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts with 6 hr. half shifts on all Mondays
• Shift Composition: 2 Security Officers, 1 Telecommunicator & 1 Sitter per shift

Primary Function:

• Ensure patient safety at all times through continuous observation and surveillance of patients identified as safety risks.

Essential Functions:

• Patient Observation:
• Maintain continuous observation of assigned patients. Prevent immediate risk, threats or hazards.
• Reporting:
• Report any changes in physical, mental, or emotional conditions to nursing staff.
• Communication:
• Communicate with the RN caring for the patient throughout the shift.
• Additional Responsibilities:
• If not needed as a sitter, man the ED Security Desk or the Volunteer Desk.
• Be prepared to return to sitter duties if a need arises during the shift.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

· Interrelationships: Interacts with all medical center employees, patients, visitors, Medical Staff.

· Potential exposure to individuals who may be physically, verbally abusive and profane language.

· Potential exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials.

· This position may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

· Potential exposure to noise, unpleasant odors and graphic sights.

Full-Time Staff Compensation and Benefits:

• Minimum Starting Base Pay: $15.00 per hour.
• Night Shift Differential:
• 6:00 PM - 11:00 PM: Additional $1.00 per hour.
• 11:00 PM - 6:00 AM: Additional $1.50 per hour.
• Benefits: Full-Time staff have access to health insurance, retirement plans, and accrue vacation and sick time.
• Work Schedule:
• Full-Time staff work 80-hour pay periods, typically consisting of 12-hour shifts.
• Adam & Baker Squad: 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with Monday shifts split into half shifts (6:00 AM - 12:00 PM, 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM).
• Charlie & David Squad: 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, with Monday shifts split into half shifts (6:00 PM - 12:00 AM, 12:00 AM - 6:00 AM).

Note: Full-Time employees must be able to work these specific hours.
