Job Title: Security Officer (Part-Time)
Location: Haywood Regional Medical Center, Clyde, NC
Pay: (PRN) Starting at $16.50 per hour, plus shift differential
Schedule: 12-hour shifts, both day and night shifts required
Position Summary: This role requires flexibility in working across Security, Telecommunications, and as a Patient Sitter. Employee will be assigned to various areas as needed to support the safety and security of Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) properties, personnel, and patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety & Security: Observe and report activities and incidents across all HRMC properties, ensuring the safety of personnel, patients, and visitors. Conduct periodic patrols, document irregularities, and perform fire watches when necessary.
- Order Maintenance: Enforce regulations and directives related to HRMC personnel, patients, visitors, and premises to preserve order.
- Valuables Management: Handle the collection and return of patients' personal property, a high-liability process requiring meticulous attention to detail.
- Deceased Handling: Assist with the receipt, release, and management of deceased bodies in coordination with employees, EMS, and Medical Examiners.
- Patient Sitting: Serve as a sitter for at-risk patients in any patient care area as needed, ensuring their safety, particularly for those at risk for suicide or self-harm.
- Telecommunications Support: Provide relief for Telecommunicators, including during breaks and meal periods.
- Lobby Monitoring: Monitor the Emergency Department and Main Lobbies from designated security desks.
These duties represent minimum standards and may be adjusted to meet the evolving needs of patients and the medical center.
Job Requirements:
- Physical Demands: This position requires extensive walking, mobility, bending, occasional lifting (5-50 lbs), stooping, standing, and sitting. Must be physically fit, alert, and capable of clear communication through seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing. The role may involve exposure to inclement weather, unpleasant odors, or sights.
- Stress Management: The role requires maintaining composure during stressful situations, including encounters with challenging individuals. Security Officers must remain calm, prioritize tasks effectively, and continue to function efficiently under pressure.
- Physical Exertion: May require restraining individuals or handling resistance daily. Light snow removal and spreading ice melt may also be required to ensure safety.
- Patient Assistance: Assist in lifting or moving patients as requested.
Working Environment:
- Interpersonal Interactions: Regular interaction with all medical center employees, patients, visitors, and Medical Staff.
- Potential Hazards: Exposure to physically or verbally abusive individuals, communicable diseases, hazardous materials, noise, unpleasant odors, and graphic sights. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
- Seasonal Conditions: May include light snow removal and driving company vehicles in winter weather to transport HRMC employees or run errands as directed by Administration.
Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Certifications:
- Must obtain upon hire:
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)
- American Heart Association First Aid
- Handle With Care certification
- Valid Driver’s License
Experience:
- 1 year of Security experience preferred
Additional Requirements:
- Must be willing and able to relocate to Clyde, NC 28721 before starting work.
