JOB TITLE: Pre-Employment Transition Services Specialist
EMPLOYEE STATUS: Non-Exempt, Hourly
PURPOSE: To provide recruitment and instruction of youth aged 16 -24 for participation in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Youth Program (WIOA). Collaborate directly with high school students with disabilities, providing comprehensive support to prepare them for successful transition from school to post-secondary education or employment by facilitating career exploration, work-based learning experiences, and self-advocacy skills development, while collaborating with school staff, families, and community partners to achieve optimal outcomes.
AREA OF PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITY: The primary area of program responsibility is within the scope of the Pre-Employment Transition Services (PETS) of HVO, Inc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1) Conduct interest inventories and assessments and explore careers using various paper and online resources to identify students' strengths, interests, and career goals, and help develop personalized transition plans.
2) Facilitate career exploration activities such as job tours, shadowing, site visits, career fairs, and labor market research in the community.
3) Offer instruction to facilitate awareness of social skills, personal strengths, and challenges in the workplace.
4) Offer instruction on work hours, personal hygiene, and health and safety requirements.
5) Host practice interview sessions and assist with resume preparation.
6) Provide instruction on self-advocacy strategies to effectively communicate their needs and access necessary support in the workplace and educational settings.
7) Assist with coordinating work-based learning experiences to build practical skills and workplace readiness.
8) Provide instruction and resources on post-secondary education options including application processes, financial aid, and accommodation.
9) Determine eligibility and assist participants with enrollment into program services.
10) Develop and maintain contacts with local employers, partner agencies, community organizations, and
educational institutions for the purpose of outreach, recruitment, and public relations.
11) Maintain accurate and complete records of student participation and progress, as outlined in the contract.
10) Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning.
11) Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to integrate transition planning and ensure seamless coordination of services.
12) Work cooperatively and actively with HVO staff for the attainment of HVO purposes, goals, and objectives.
13) Maintain required record keeping according to CARF, Mental Health, VR, DSS and HVO standards.
14) Provide back filling for other services as needed.
15) Perform other duties assigned and take part in cross training.
16) Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
17) Drive both personal and HVO vehicles for work purposes.
18) Abide by the HVO Wireless Device Policy
19) Must be aware of applicable HVO safety rules and regulations.
MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS/PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
- Must be able to work in a range of settings such as classrooms and work experience.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be creative and energetic.
- Must possess a valid NC driver's license and be approved by HVO's automobile insurance carrier.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work in this class is generally sedentary. Work does require the ability to talk to
program participants, see printed materials and computer screen, and the physical dexterity to operate a motor vehicle and office equipment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A minimum of three years of experience collaborating with individuals with disabilities and disadvantages.
