Job Overview:
Responsible for direction of patient care in the Intensive Care Unit and Medical Surgical setting. Consults with staff, physicians, and nurse executive on nursing problems and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Assists in formulating budget for departments.
Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical practice leadership for operating patient services departments, including Medical/Surgical and Intensive Care Unit.
- Direct clinical practice, coordinate patient service delivery, educate and develop staff.
- Control budget(s), and manage the work environment.
- To serve as a resource for interdisciplinary divisions within the hospital.
- Responsible for the planning, organizing, and directing operations and staff, clinical and non-clinical, of the medical/surgical and ICU unit.
- Interprets hospital policies, objectives and operational procedures to subordinates.
- Consistently reviews, maintains, and develops policy for designated departments.
- Develops and maintains clinical competencies through continuing education.
- Continuously assess employee performance providing feedback to employee informally and formally on an annual basis.
- Establishes and maintains a department orientation plan.
- Interviews and selects the most qualified candidate for vacant positions.
- Establishes and maintains staffing patterns that meet budget requirements and utilizes patient acuity when appropriate.
- Monitors equipment usage to assure availability and safety of same.
- Counsels employees in accordance with established procedures; i.e., describes behavioral/performance discrepancies and assists employee in identification of improvement areas.
- Acquires, maintains and enhances knowledge and experience in clinical specialty to promote excellence in patient care. Assures knowledge is specific to age population served in department.
- Serves as a consultant for staff members, both as an expert clinician and manager, to promote achievement of patient and department goals.
- Conducts staff meetings and department conference.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent required; Master’s Degree in related discipline (preferred).
- Five (5) years of progressive leadership and managerial experience (required).
- BCLS Required
- ACLS Preferred
- California Registered Nurse License.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $195,000.00 - $215,000.00 per year
