Job Summary
Responsible for all aspects of practitioner credentialing and re-credentialing for membership and/or privileges at San Benito Healthcare District, and provides general administrative support to the Director of Medical Staff Services and the organized Medical Staff.
Responsibilities
- Initiates and processes applications for initial membership & privileges, reappointments, additional privileges, and temporary/locum tenens appointments within the time frames established by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules & Regulations, or policies/procedures, in a timely, comprehensive, well-organized manner.
- Upon receipt of a completed application, initiates information collection, verification and documentation process, per the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules & Regulations and policies/procedures
- Closely monitors information collection; performs analysis of all information received & pursues additional information, if necessary, to allow for a comprehensive & effective review of practitioner qualifications.
- Immediately reports any disciplinary actions, malpractice actions, or adverse information received about a practitioner during the credentialing/re-credentialing process to the Director of Medical Staff Services
- Obtains relevant patient care activity data from in-house database systems and other hospitals to support privilege requests and medical staff quality review processes.
- Per established procedures, provides a monthly Credentials Report summarizing new applicants, reappointments, additional privileges, and other recommended actions to the Credentials/Medical Executive Committee.
- Utilizes, maintains and updates the online credentialing database on an ongoing basis, including management of expirations for licensure, malpractice insurance, certifications, appointments, etc.
- Manages staff verification responses to other facilities.
- Manages requests for catering and meeting room set-ups on an ongoing basis.
- Demonstrates skill in written and oral communications, maintains confidentiality of all credentialing information, and displays willingness to expand knowledge base for ongoing professional growth and development.
- Able to work with minimal supervision, and prioritize and manage a demanding workload.
- Assists in regulatory and accreditation surveys as assigned by the Director.
- Assists with payor credentialing.
- Manages and periodically reports on department quality indicators.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of three years’ experience in a credentialing role in Medical Staff Services highly preferred.
- Associates degree in a health related field required.
- CPCS certification highly preferred.
