POSITION TITLE: Dropout Prevention and Recovery Liaison- CENTRAL HIGH

 

REPORTS TO: Asst. Supt. of High Schools & Building Principal

 

START DATE:  AFTER MAY 31, 2025

 

Position Summary: The Dropout Prevention and Recovery Liaison coordinates and implements the District’s dropout prevention initiatives in conjunction with providing support services in areas such as: Peer Leadership, Conflict Resolution, Peer Mediation, and Parent Involvement. The Dropout Prevention Specialist also assists schools in developing dropout prevention strategies and programs. Responsible for liaising services for students and families. Creates, supports, and develops community engagement and professional learning opportunities for assisting students who are a risk of dropping out of school. Provides social and emotional supports to students that ensure intentional focuses are on educational, job-related, college and/or career placement.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Collect, interpret and use student attendance data to develop strategies addressing dropout prevention
  2. Collaborate with high school counselors and social workers to address potential alternative educational placement opportunities and provide support for students at these sites as needed.
  3. Maintain a collaborative network among school guidance counselors, registrar, attendance clerk and building principals
  4. Collect and interpret student attendance data
  5. Explore alternative placement options within the district for students at risk of dropping out of school and for students who may benefit from different coursework (i.e. dual enrollment course offerings).
  6. Research model programs for dropout prevention
  7. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel and other agencies associated with the school.
  8. Provide a nurturing, supportive and positive climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear routines, and effective management techniques. Seek assistance of the parents and the Principal when needed.
  9. Maintain positive, cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with the administration, instructional staff, students, parents, and representatives of resource agencies within the community.
  10. Receive referrals on students from staff and provide appropriate services at school and through home visits.
  11. Facilitate various meetings for the purpose of ensuring that outcomes for individual students achieve district objectives.
  12. Identify students who have dropped out or are at risk of dropping out of school for the purpose of providing assistance to help students meet academic requirements for graduation.
  13. Lead students to existing credit recovery programs for the purpose of helping students meet credit requirements for graduation.
  14. Maintain accurate records (confidential and non-confidential) of all contacts with various client groups, support personnel, and agencies in the community for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail of services provided.

 

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Attends District administrative meetings, as required.
  2. Prepares handbooks, schedules, and materials for opening of school in Fall.
  3. Participates in professional activities designed to enhance competency.

 

Physical/Visual Activities or Demands:
1. Standing, walking, sitting, feeling, grasping, talking, hearing.
2. Normal attention with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more, and ability to ID and distinguish colors, required.
3. Light to moderate physical demand with regular lifting of very light to light (1 to 25 lbs.) items by hand and occasional lifting of average (25 to 60 lbs.) items by hand or with mechanical assistance.

 

 

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education:  Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, public administration, communications, business administration, public relations, or an education related field (preferred)

 

Licensure: Candidate must hold a valid driver’s license with no serious violations. Teaching/Counseling Certification (preferred).

 

Experience:  

  1. A minimum of six years of professional experience in counseling, social work, public administration, communications, business administration, public relations, or an education-related field (preferred).
  2. Have experience in peer leadership and parental involvement.

  3. Read, write, and speak at an advanced level.
  4. Apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagrammatic, or schedule form.
  1. Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
  2. Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and the interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administrators, parents and the community.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations.
