POSITION TITLE: Dean of Students
REPORTS TO: Principal
Job Purpose Statement/s: Overall student management and dealing with student attendance, student behavior, and remediation of disciplinary consequences; disciplinary intervention processes, parent community, student, and staff relations.
Essential Job Functions:
- Serve as liaison between administration, parents, and staff for suspension prevention and intervention services.
- Investigate assigned discipline referrals affording due process to students.
- Confer with principal/assistant principal on appropriate consequences for behavior including staff and parent conferences, detention, in-school suspension, and out-of-school suspension.
- Communicate behavior infractions, the result of the investigation, and any assigned consequences from the principal/assistant principal to parents/guardians.
- Draft a re-entry plan and facilitate re-entry meetings with students, parents, and teachers including avenues to repair harm to affected parties.
- Assist in the planning, developing, and implementing of individual student behavior plans and interventions.
- Counsel students and parents about the school and district.
- Coordinate alternative education placement for educational services.
Other Job Functions:
- Assist staff and parents in improving appropriate student behavior.
- Assist in developing programs to promote positive student behavior as well as intervention.
- Assist in monitoring and supervision of students.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements- Qualifications:
Experience Required: Three years' successful teaching or prior job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities, demonstrated appropriate professional judgment in advising and supporting students and interacting with parents and staff in various school settings.
Attendance Requirement: Regular attendance is necessary and is essential to meeting the expectations of the job functions.
Skills, Knowledge, and/or Abilities Required:
Skills to manage students and programs, communicate effectively, and problem-solve.
Knowledge of discipline procedures, education code, and district policies.
Abilities to sit for prolonged periods, provide direction to others and make independent judgments, keep, and maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds, and communicate in oral and written form. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling/ use of fingers, talking/hearing conversations, and near visual acuity/visual accommodation.
Licenses, Certifications: Teacher certification 9-12 required or Counseling K-12; working towards or current Administrative Certification or course work toward building administration.
The employee will be paid from the Teacher's Salary Schedule
