Position Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, the Service Technician must be able to perform each Essential Duty successfully. The requirements listed below are indicative of knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning and faulty electrical equipment, lighting, power, emergency power systems, switch gear, transformers, contactors, relays, PLCs, data, etc.
- Excellent customer service relationship skills.
- Troubleshoot, test, and install data cabling.
- Record keeping and tracking of all labor and material on all jobs on a daily basis.
- Keep an orderly and well stocked van to make service calls as efficient as possible
- This individual is responsible for planning, scheduling, assigning, participating in, and inspecting the work of electricians and apprentices on service calls up and special projects up to $100,000.00.
- Order or requisition materials, equipment, or supplies.
- Record information such as personnel, production, or operational data on specified forms.
- Train workers in construction methods, operation of equipment, safety procedures, or company policies. Identify the developmental needs of others and coach, mentor, or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills
- Read specifications, blueprints, and submittal data to determine construction requirements or to plan procedures. Interpret the meaning of this information for others by translating or explaining what the information means and how it can be used.
- Confer with project manager & estimators, or other contractors to resolve problems or to coordinate activities.
- Estimate material or worker requirements to complete jobs utilizing daily/weekly goal tracking.
- Conduct periodic inspections of each person's work to verify safety and ensure that all codes and specifications are being met.
- Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work. while getting members of your team to work together to accomplish tasks by encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
- Handling complaints, settling disputes, and resolving grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiating with others.
Essential Duty Requirements:
- Ability to communicate is perhaps the most important skill that a Service Technician requires. You need to transmit information and instructions in a clear and effective manner to people who may not understand due to experience or educational differences. Ensuring that the person you are talking to fully understands what you are saying is a vital skill.

- Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials, and tools of the electrical trade.
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work and demonstrable commitment to safety.
- Ability to supervise the work of skilled workers.
- Considerable knowledge of the National Electrical Code for electrical installations.
- Ability to interpret and work from instructions, penciled plans and sketches, submittals, specifications, and blueprints.
- Ability to estimate sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining labor, time, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
- Flexibility, able to adapt and comply with Company/Client requirements.
- General understanding of other trades to coordinate/schedule installation of electrical work.
- Ability to work with and interact with other trades
- Has a desire to learn and develop within the role
Service Technician Requirements:
- Electrical Journeyman License Required, Masters license preferred
- Drivers license and DOT Medical Certificate
- Journeymen and Apprentices report to the Service Technician.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain or snow.
- Job requires employee to have required personal tools with them at all times
- Work from all types of ladders
- Perform work at various heights, up to 90 from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks or other safe work areas
- Work in restricted areas (switchgear room, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics)
- Wear personal protective equipment at all times hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves
- Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers
- Able to work eight (8) hour days, forty (40) hour weeks and overtime as required plus night shift if applicable, and out of town if applicable
- Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, kneel, balance, push, pull and reach overhead
- Lift 50 pounds
