The Excavator Operator at HB Utilities is responsible for operating heavy machinery, specifically an excavator, to perform digging and excavation tasks for utility construction projects. This position requires an individual with significant experience in operating large-scale excavators to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate excavation of materials for underground utility installation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Operate excavators to perform various excavation tasks, including digging trenches for utilities, lifting and moving materials, and clearing job sites.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections of machinery and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs as needed to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
- Work closely with the Foreman and project team to determine the necessary excavation requirements and site preparations.
- Follow project blueprints and specifications to ensure excavation is completed according to plans and within safety standards.
- Safely and efficiently move dirt, debris, and materials to designated areas on the construction site.
- Monitor the surrounding environment for hazards and maintain a safe work zone.
- Comply with all safety protocols and ensure the job site remains clear of obstacles and hazards.
- Maintain detailed records of equipment use, job progress, and any issues encountered during excavation.
- Coordinate with other team members to ensure smooth operations and project timelines.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience operating an excavator over 50K on construction or utility projects.
- Certification for heavy equipment operation preferred.
- Strong understanding of excavation practices, including safety procedures and proper handling of machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project plans.
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic mechanical maintenance on excavators.
- Strong attention to detail and safety protocols.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with other team members.
- Ability to work in physically demanding environments and in various weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to operate machinery for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy materials when needed.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and crouch during machinery operation and site preparation.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments, including adverse weather conditions.
