Job Summary and Qualifications
The Injury Prevention Coordinator will be responsible for program design based on trauma registry data, developing/implementing intervention strategies, establishing hospital and community contacts and educational activities, developing patient information /education materials, and monitoring/evaluating outcomes, with functions to include staff education, public education, and coordination and participation with disaster planning exercises. Under the direction of the TMD, and TPD, this position is responsible and accountable for the coordination, development, organization, implementation, and evaluation of injury prevention, education, and research.
Promotes effective communication with community partners and long-term strategies to reduce preventable injuries. The Injury Prevention Coordinator, functioning in the spirit of teamwork, is accountable to providing optimal customer service to internal and external customers and functions within the standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization.
The Injury Prevention Coordinator is responsible for meeting the American College of Surgeons, State of Colorado Trauma Center Standards, as well as Joint Commission standards, complying with all state and federal regulations, complying with corporate and hospital policy and procedures, promoting teamwork and positive customer service.
Here is some of what you can expect from being a PInjury Prevention Coordinator with us:
- You will plan, develop, implement and evaluates the effectiveness of an Injury Prevention Program utilizing identified patterns of injury from the trauma registry, ensuring the program meets the standards of the American College of Surgeons.
- You will report the effectiveness of injury prevention program activities at Level 2 PIPS review with Trauma Medical Director and provide monthly reports to the Trauma Systems Committee.
- You will ensure deadlines are met for grant applications, class, and event scheduling.
- You will collaborate and align with division peers to develop, implement, and evaluate injury prevention strategies that will mature current injury prevention program efforts.
- You will Implements intervention strategies in the hospital and community settings by increasing public awareness of trauma related injuries and prevention measures.
- You will Maintains a high level of expertise and professional growth related to the care of the trauma patient through review of current literature (Emergency Nurses Association, Society of Trauma Nurses, Centers for Disease Control, SafeKids, etc.) available on injury prevention.
- You will monitor performance for universal screening for alcohol use and ensure all patients who have screened positive receive intervention by appropriately trained staff prior to discharge, ensuring documentation is complete and present in the EMR. Reports the effectiveness and monitoring at Level 2 PIPS review with Trauma Medical Director and monthly to the Trauma Systems Committee.
- You will in collaboration with TMD and TPD, implements and monitors performance of new and/or updated standards from the American College of Surgeons related to injury prevention
- You will Trauma registry data entry supporting the trauma PIPS program.
- You will monitor trauma patient outcomes; evaluate for trends.
- You will coordinate with physicians, nurses, and other in-hospital staff and outside providers to evaluate and address specific patient care issues and identify opportunities for injury prevention across the continuum of trauma care.
- You will Data collection related to the trauma patient.
Qualifications you will need for this role:
- Bachelor's degree Nursing or Master's degree in public health
- Prefer clinical experience with trauma patients.
- Must be able to develop programs and present them to various participants.
- If you have no previous experience with program development, you must have three years recent (within past four years) Emergency Department or Critical Care experience, preferably in a trauma center.
- Experience with injury prevention and community health promotion desired.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support
- Child Safety Certified Tech with in a year of hire
- Advanced Trauma Life Spt ATLS Course Director within 6 months of hire
- If Registered Nurse - Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state
