Job Summary And Qualifications

The Unit Secretary contributes to high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of clerical tasks. The Unit Secretary functions as receptionist for the unit and assists the patient care team while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment.

This position supports the mission of Presbyterian/St Luke’s Medical Center of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. Provides coordination of non-nursing unit functions, maintaining unit relationships with non-clinical services to facilitate efficient interdepartmental and unit functioning. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Duties may include, but are not limited to: manages visitor security, orients families to the environment, assists with the Admission process and order entry, maintains unit equipment and supplies, and participates in general cleaning of equipment per appropriate guidelines.

What you will do in this role:

  • Greet patients and visitors in waiting areas, directing them to other departments, and keeping them informed of wait times.
  • Promotes a positive, customer-oriented demeanor.
  • Perform patient-centered secretarial tasks, such as physician order entry and creating, labeling, and organizing patient charts. Disassemble and file charts after discharge.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Receives and directs all incoming calls and relays messages.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support through the AHA or ARC required within first 90 days of employment
