Description
HCA Solutions is currently seeking qualified Phlebotomists for the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center in Altoona PA. These positions are part-time, Monday thru Friday within the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.; up to 15 hours per week or 60 hours per month. Position is slated to last up to five years.
Description of Duties
Provide Phlebotomy Services in a method commensurate with the local community. These services, although not directly supervised, will be reviewed by a physician on staff at the facility.
The candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Assist the Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurse with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring the patient’s vital signs and weight and scanning laboratory results in the Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
- Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection and process within the Health Service Unit, to include A&O in-processing, DNA per procedure, vaccine programs and PPD updates. This will include COVID screenings.
- Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the contract or Reference Lab and document per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures. Ensure that lab requests are completed properly and all reports are returned from the contract lab, provider notified, log results in as received, follow up appropriately, and file/scan results in lab and medical record.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
- Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) or his/her designee in the coordination of Contract Reference Lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of 4 equipment and notification of needed supplies.
- Assist the HSA and Clinical Director with writing and implementing policies that deal with the laboratory program.
Requirements
Education and Experience
- The candidate shall have valid certification/license to practice in the state of PA as a Phlebotomist.
- The candidate shall have at least one (1) years’ experience working with geriatric patients.
- The candidate must provide proof of experience with specimen collection, packaging and shipment to referral laboratories with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records on their resume.
- Certified in ACLS and BCLS
- The candidate shall complete mandatory training as required by the institution and health services department.
- Required to Self-Enroll into the VA’s education tool Talent Management System (TMS) and take all required HIPAA and Information Security courses prior to orientation.
- Proof of 2 Step TB Test
- Proof of all vaccinations to include COVID if available
