Storage Engineer – Job Description (Netapp and HPE)
- Storage Architecture Design:
- Assessing data storage needs and designing comprehensive storage solutions using NetApp technologies like AFF, FAS, and Cloud Volumes ONTAP.
- Selecting appropriate storage tiers, data protection strategies (snapshots, replication, backups), and performance optimization techniques based on workload demands.
- Creating detailed technical documentation for storage infrastructure deployments.
- Implementation and Deployment:
- Installing, configuring, and managing NetApp storage systems.
- Integrating NetApp storage with existing IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and applications.
- Performing capacity planning and storage provisioning to ensure adequate storage availability.
- Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting:
- Monitoring storage performance metrics and identifying bottlenecks.
- Analyzing storage usage patterns and optimizing data placement for optimal performance.
- Troubleshooting storage related issues and resolving complex technical challenges.
- Data Protection and Disaster Recovery:
- Implementing data protection strategies including replication, snapshots, and backups to ensure data resilience.
- Designing and testing disaster recovery plans for critical data.
- Cloud Integration:
- Integrating NetApp storage with public cloud platforms like AWS and Azure using services like FSx for ONTAP.
- Managing data migration between on-premises and cloud storage environments.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Extensive experience with NetApp storage technologies (ONTAP, AFF, FAS, Cloud Volumes ONTAP, HPE – 3PAR, Primera and Alletra)
- Deep understanding of storage protocols (iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS)
- Proficiency in storage management tools and APIs
- Knowledge of data protection strategies (replication, snapshots, backups)
- Experience with network design and troubleshooting
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure)
- Familiarity with Cisco and Brocade Switch Management

Compensation and Benefits
A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies. In addition, this role is eligible for the following benefits subject to company policies: medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, life, accidental death & dismemberment, and disability insurance; employee assistance program; 401(k) retirement plan; 10 days of paid time off per year (some positions are eligible for need-based leave with no designated number of leave days per year); and 10 paid holidays per year
