General Statement of Duties
Teacher for the Fire Sciences (firefighting) classes at the Advanced Career Education Center at Hermitage.
This is a 239 day or 11-month assignment
- Plan, organize and deliver instruction to meet individual and group learning needs utilizing state guidelines and division curriculum.
- Regularly exhibit considerable knowledge of learning theory and best practices.
- Consistently act in the best interests of students and model appropriate behavior in all professional interactions.
Essential Duties
The physical demands of this assignment include the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
Professional Expectations:
- Teach theory and practical application of firefighting.
- Develop business and local-government partnerships that support program goals
- Sponsor an active student organization SkillsUSA and support student participate in competitions
- Maintain complete records of student performance and attendance
- Maintain a learning environment and atmosphere conducive to safe, orderly, and effective instruction
- Make effective use of new technologies in the delivery of instruction
- Takes all necessary precautions to protect and to maintain facilities, equipment, and materials
- Participate in a variety of activities to keep professional skills, curriculum, and instruction current
- Attends work daily and be engaged in job responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, community, and school personnel
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP) - Firefighting II
- Two years of successful, full-time or the equivalent of occupational experience within the past five years in the teaching specialty sought.
- Possessing their CDL license or willingness to obtain within first year of employment preferred.

Minimum annual starting salary:
- $63,921.05 (Bachelors)
- $66,989.42 (Masters)
- The annual salary provided in this posting is based on the current school year’s pay plan. The annual salary for the 2025-2026 school year will be determined once the 2025-2026 financial plan is approved and adopted in the Spring of 2025.
