General Statement of Duties
The School Security Officer is a 200-day, 8 hours per day position, located at Glen Allen Elementary School. Starting annual salary: $31,936.69(Note: This position is for the 2025-2026 school year and the salary will be prorated based on employment start date). Salary based on FY25 pay plan, as rates for FY26 have not yet been approved. Posting is open until filled.
This individual will ensure the safety, security and welfare of all students, faculty, staff and visitors.
Essential Duties
Patrols campus, inside and outside, to maintain order and discipline and prevent crime- Collaborate with school administrators and other school personnel to support positive and safe school climates
- Encourage students to use positive verbal and behavioral alternatives
- Encourage academic achievement and positive involvement in the school community
- Investigates student violations of School Board policies
- Refer students having problems to administrative staff
- Detains students violating the law until a law enforcement officer arrives
- Escorts disruptive students to the office
- Prevents unauthorized persons from entering and leaving school grounds
- Reports criminal activity to the appropriate school official or authority
- Deters disruptive pupil behavior
- Attends work daily and is engaged and on task
- Adheres to the school security officer dress code
- Submits a written report of daily activities
- Submits written incident reports
- Attends training as required
- Models appropriate behavior for students to emulate
- Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to follow oral and written directions- Ability to work well with people
- A strong desire to work with school-aged youth, professional educators, law enforcement personnel, school staff, and parents
- Be 21 years of age or older
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of relevant security or school/public contact service experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
