General Statement of Duties
The vacancy is open until filled. This position is a 260-day contract.
The candidate must possess a comprehensive knowledge of reading acquisition and pedagogy, learning theory, and best practices for effective Tier I, II, and III instruction. This is a collaborative position, and candidates must possess the ability to work collaboratively with school administration, school and division literacy coaches, and teachers. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of an ability to write curriculum, develop assessments, model lessons, create professional learning experiences, and use data to inform and design instruction. Candidates should also demonstrate an understanding of adult learning and instructional coaching best-practices that use state standards, division curriculum, and student data to increase student achievement. In the event of a teacher shortage, the division coach may need to serve as a teacher until a suitable replacement is found.
Essential Duties
Serve as a district literacy coordinator, supporting teachers and administrators in multiple schools across the districtDevelop and deliver relevant professional development based on current literacy research and identified division needs
Develop division curriculum and resources that align with literacy research, the HCPS aligned curriculum, and the Virginia Standards of Learning and support the implementation of the HCPS Instruction model
Analyze school and division data to identify trends, strengths and areas of opportunity
Uses feedback from teachers, coaches, and administrators to identify and create resources that support the implementation of the HCPS aligned curriculum and the alignment of data with instruction
Collaborate with school-based coaches to support school-wide literacy initiatives
Assist schools with analyzing data and establishing next steps for instruction
Partner with school administrators and school-based literacy coaches to identify school-specific needs
Collaborate with school-based literacy coaches and building administrators to develop a plan for achieving school literacy goals and increase the literacy proficiency of all students
Provide coaching support to school-based coaches related to facilitating team planning, analyzing data, working with teachers, and implementing school literacy initiatives
Participate in School Quality meetings, where applicable
Support the continued implementation of the HCPS LifeReady Literacy Plan
Stay abreast of current educational trends and best practices as these relate to classroom instruction, literacy research, and coaching best practices
Maintain professional manner when interacting with teachers, students, parents, patrons, administrators, community agencies and colleagues
Incorporate and model appropriate use of technology to support instruction and student learning
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree and Reading Specialist endorsement are required- A minimum of five years of teaching experience in grades K through 5 is preferred
Previous experience as a reading specialist or literacy coach is required
Additional Information
Minimum annual starting salary: **$72,875 Master's, and $76,373 Doctorate.
**The annual salary, stated in this posting, is based on the 2024-25 adopted fiscal plan. The annual salary for the 2025-26 school year will be determined in the Spring when the Henrico School Board approves and adopts the 2025-26 fiscal plan.
This is a full-time position, 260-day contract. The start date for this position is July 1, 2025.
