General Statement of Duties
Early childhood Educational Diagnosticians, you specialize in assessing and evaluating students to determine if they have learning disorders or other educational needs. The primary responsibility is to identify students who qualify for special education services and collaborate with other professionals to create tailored plans for their success.
Essential Duties
- Conduct formal assessments to evaluate students' learning abilities, strengths, and challenges.
- Administer standardized tests and other diagnostic tools to identify learning disabilities, developmental delays, or other educational needs.
- Analyze assessment results to make informed decisions about appropriate interventions.
- Work closely with special education teachers, school psychologists, and other professionals to develop individualized education programs (IEPs) for students.
- Attend IEP meetings and contribute insights based on diagnostic findings.
- Maintain accurate records of assessments, evaluations, and progress monitoring.
- Document students' strengths, challenges, and specific needs.
- Provide clear and concise reports to inform educational planning.
- Design evidence-based interventions and accommodations to address students' learning difficulties.
- Recommend appropriate instructional strategies, assistive technologies, and modifications. Monitor progress and adjust interventions as needed.
- Stay informed about best practices, research, and legal requirements related to special education.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions to enhance diagnostic skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Must hold a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in special education with at least 5 years of experience in conducting educational assessments and interpreting assessment data for early childhood special education students. Strong communication skills are necessary to collaborate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues. Knowledge of federal and state laws related to special education. Preferred candidate has a master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Psychology or a related field.
Additional Information
The minimum salary for this 239-day position is $63,921 with a bachelor’s degree or $66,989 with a master’s. The annual salary will be prorated based upon the work begin date. The salary quoted is based upon the 2024-25 salary scale and is subject to change with the adoption of the 2025-26 financial plan.
