General Statement of Duties
Under the guidance of the speech-language pathologist, the Instructional Assistant provides essential support with the implementation of the instructional program. Requires the protection of sensitive and confidential information. Independent judgment is required.
Essential Duties
Assists students with participation in therapy sessions to include assistance with technology in order to maintain attention and focus on speech-language therapy goals and/or objectives.
- Assists the speech-language pathologist with collecting and preparing therapy materials.
- Assists with classroom/therapy room management and behavior modification.
- Assist with speech, language and hearing screenings without clinical interpretation of results.
- Assist during speech-language assessment exclusive of administration or interpretation.
- Perform activities for each session in accordance with a plan developed and directed by the speech language pathologist.
- Assist with programming augmentative and alternative communication devices and assist the student in repetitive use of such devices.
- Collects data on student performance and progress.
- Reports student concerns directly and promptly to the teacher and/ or school administrator
- Assist with scheduling appointments and activities and perform other clerical duties.
- Assists students with transitioning to and from therapy sessions.
- Perform duties not otherwise restricted to the practice of speech-language pathology.
- May be required to assist with student’s medical needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years old and hold a high school diploma or equivalent. 42 semester hours from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Paraprofessional autism certification is required or must be completed within 60-days of hire. Provided by HCPS at no cost. Employees who do not possess a minimum of 42 college credits are strongly encouraged to complete the ParaPro Assessment within 60-days of hire. Upon receipt of passing scores, HCPS will reimburse the test fee. (https://www.ets.org/parapro for testing information).
Title I Schools: Must have completed a minimum of 42 semester hours from an accredited college or university; or passing score - 455 or higher on the ParaPro Assessment
