General Statement of Duties
Maintains safe school facilities though effective supervision of school security officers. Works in office settings and at multiple indoor and outdoor sites. Protects the school community, maintains order and discipline, and promptly addresses safety issues.
This posting is for (3) School Security Officer Supervisor positions (12month/260-day/8hr per day). The starting annual salary is $55,005.66.
Essential Duties
- Provides effective leadership and daily supervision of school security officers, in partnership with school administration.
- Completes time and attendance, scheduling, and other day-to-day management functions.
- Visits schools daily to check in with officers, administrators, and other safety stakeholders.
- Develops positive relationships with students, the school community, and first responders.
- Trains staff and officers on approved procedures, protocols, manuals and communicate directives from upper management.
- Provides ongoing mentoring, guidance, and support to school security officers.
- Demonstrates appropriate use of written and verbal communication.
- Demonstrates appropriate school security responsibilities and behaviors.
- Conducts school security observations to ensure compliance with practices and protocols.
- Prepares and communicates school security officer evaluations.
- Prepares, reviews, and maintains required records, to include daily reports.
- As needed, fills in for absent school security officers.
- Conducts indoor and outdoor patrols and maintains a strong visual presence at assigned facilities.
- As needed, directly maintains discipline, responds to safety hazards, and prevents crime.
- As needed, renders CPR and emergency aid.
- A needed, inspects, responds to, enables, disables and troubleshoots alarms, scanners, and other security equipment.
- Works school-sponsored events outside of regular school hours.
- Adheres to and enforces security officer dress code.
- Provides feedback to the Director of School Safety related to school safety protocols, procedures, and issues.
- May inform or testify in law enforcement or school disciplinary proceedings.
- During emergencies, acts decisively to prevent harm, maintain order, and coordinate with law enforcement
- Works shifts and on-call assignments as required.
- Maintains appropriate physical standards including agility, physical strength, and stamina to respond to emergency situations.
- Attends trainings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and access to reliable transportation
- DCJS certification within 60 days of hire
- 21 years of age or older
- Current certification in CPR/AED and basic First Aid
- Ability to follow oral and written directions
- Ability to lead and to effectively work with youth, educators, law enforcement, school staff, and parents
- Minimum two (2) years of relevant school security or school/public contact service.
- Physical ability sufficient to perform assigned duties.
- Willing and able to carry and use all security weapons and technology in accordance with District protocols
