What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at HDT Bio?
As Senior Accountant, you will play a pivotal and visible role in financial operations by contributing expertise in grants and contracts, general ledger/month-end close, accounts payable, accounts receivable, other general accounting operations, and support of the budget process. This team member will ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards while contributing to process improvements and team initiatives. The successful candidate will be inquisitive and practical, adaptable and effective, and highly collaborative.

Principal Responsibilities:
Grant and Contract Accounting:
Accounts Receivable:
- Create and maintain grant and contract voucher/invoicing, collections, and reconciliation of receivables
- Ensure Facilities and Administrative Costs (F&A) are charged appropriately to grants and contracts utilizing the applicable F&A bases (Modified Total Direct Costs, Total Direct Costs, etc.)
- Engage in award setup process for new grants and contracts
- Facilitate productive relationships with government entities through on-time invoicing and reporting, while ensuring financial policies and procedures are upheld
- Ensure timely and accurate recognition of revenue and collection
Accounts Payable:
- Monitor committed grant spend utilizing procurement tracking systems
- Oversee payment schedules, ensure proper approvals, process vendor invoices
General Ledger and Month-End Close:
- Authority on financial statement representation of grant and contract reasonableness, allowability, and allocability
- Perform reconciliations of general ledger accounts and analysis of subledger and other data sets
- Manage month-end accrual accounting of percent complete and related processes
Payroll and Timekeeping
- Payroll processing and recording
- Organizational timekeeping maintenance
Budgeting:
- Collaborate with grant and contract stakeholders to refine budget assumptions, track current spending and perform variance analysis
- Support company budgeting and forecasting processes
Audit and Indirect Cost Rate Negotiation Support:
- Prepare and provide necessary documentation for grant sponsor audits
- Address auditor inquiries and assist in resolving discrepancies
- Ensure HDT is audit-ready by engaging in policy and process development in conjunction with the Grants Management team and providing staff education on said policies
Technology Utilization:
- Skillfully utilize Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Query, Automate), SharePoint
- Enable higher utilization of QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, and Precoro procurement systems to streamline finance workflows
- Contribute to further automation and optimization of inter-department accounting processes
Qualifications (Skills):
- Strong understanding of general accounting principles and financial reporting
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, Macros, and Power Query)
- Proficiency in SharePoint and automation tools like Power Automate
- Experience with grants and contracts preferred
- Policy and procedure development experience preferred
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required
- Grants and Contract accounting and Indirect Cost Rate experience required
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in accounting roles, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions
- CPA designation or progress toward certification preferred
- Experience with budgeting and projections preferred
- Policy and procedure development experience preferred
