What You'll Do
- Manage a team of underwriters to achieve revenue and profit targets
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of new underwriters
- Develop your team of underwriters into a group that is highly engaged with agency partners
- Create a collaborative environment for underwriting referrals and handle referrals within given authority
- Drive profitable growth by assisting with the deployment of expanded appetite and development of new offerings
- Develop and possess a deep understanding of HDVI’s insurance coverage, insurance products, rate plan, and models
- Partner with data, engineering, and software product to expand the utilization of telematics data in the underwriting process
- Manage and refine internal underwriting audit practices
- Collaborate with the Chief Underwriting Office (CUO) on the refinement of team strategy and Underwriting Guidelines
- Contribute to the continuous refinement of underwriting policies and procedures with pre-bind underwriting, risk monitoring, and policy maintenance
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to provide underwriter, agency, and market feedback for the development of HDVI software, products, pricing, predictive models, and rating methods
- Interface with strategic business partners – reinsurance & insurance partners, telematics & other vendors, and more
- Utilize outside advisors and consultants navigating complex business decisions
- Monitor industry trends and recommend new/enhanced insurance products to senior management
- Maintain a strong rapport with agency partnersAid in the recurring training of and marketing to agency partners
- Provide feedback to key stakeholders on the performance of agency partners
What You Have
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Insurance, Business Administration or Business Management, or equivalent in a field with skills transferable to insurance
- Specialized insurance industry training, such as CPCU or ARM
- 10 or more years of experience in transportation underwriting
- 3 or more years in a management position
- Advanced knowledge of commercial property & casualty underwriting concepts/tools
- Thorough knowledge of state rules governing the use and issuance of policies
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent analytical skills to determine risk characteristics from data
- Strong office technology skills, automation savvy, and vision for scalability
