About the Role
The Senior Liability Adjuster is responsible for investigating, evaluating, and negotiating Auto and General Liability claims, which may have unique coverages, while maintaining a high standard of customer service. This includes prompt contact with insureds and follow-up to complete timely and accurate reserves and claim resolution. Key Responsibilities include: analyzing coverage; evaluating liability and damages, establishing accurate reserves throughout the life of the file; maintaining and managing a diary system to efficiently manage and resolve cases; communicating file updates and reserves to the broker, insured, and underwriter when appropriate; attending mediations to resolve cases; participating in roundtables to discuss reserves and strategy, efficiently manage and resolve assigned claim inventory; and effectively managing the litigation process and defense counsel to ensure timely and cost-effective outcomes. Property and casualty licenses are required.
\n- Analyzes insurance policies and other documents to determine insurance coverage
- Investigates and analyzes claim information to determine extent of liability
- Handles 3rd Party Liability Claims with complex to major severity
- Assist in suits, mediations and arbitrations. Works with Counsel in the defense of litigation
- Sets timely, adequate reserves in compliance with the company’s reserving philosophy
- Engages experts to assist in the evaluation of the claim
- Monitors vendor performance and controls expense costs
- Evaluates, negotiates, and determines settlement values
- Communicates with all interested parties throughout the life of the claim
- Proactively discusses coverage decisions, the need for additional information, and settlement amounts with interested parties
- Handles all claims in accordance with Best Practices
- Responsible for monitoring and completing assigned claims inventory
- Acquire and maintain a state adjuster’s license and meet state continuing education requirements
- Provides Best-In-Class customer service for insureds and agents
- Develops and maintains relationships with external and internal stakeholders
- Acts as a mentor for less experienced Claims Professionals
- Identifies opportunities for subrogation and ensures recovery interests are protected
- Identifies fraud indicators and refers files to SIU for further investigation
- Participates in claims audits, internal and external
- Mentor fellow adjusters and enhance their career development
- Assists with special projects
- 5 years experience with handling complex Commercial Auto claims
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
- Experience resolving high severity injury claims
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and be able to handle multiple tasks while managing competing priorities
- Must be willing to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to collaborate and successfully manage work when working at home or in the office in a flexible work environment
- Effective decision- making skills including the ability to recognize, analyze, and improve claims performance against standards and goals
- Experience handling self- insured retentions, surplus lines coverages, and partnering with MGAs is a plus
- Extensive experience across all technical areas of Commercial Auto inclusive of but not limited to Physical Damage, Auto Liability, first-party medical / Personal Injury Protection, Motor Truck Cargo, MCS-90, and Truckers General Liability
- Extensive experience with analyzing, determining, and applying Coverage for Commercial Auto claims
- Advanced experience and capabilities in litigation claims management, including ADR and mediation processes involving Commercial Auto exposures
- Experience attending and controlling cases at mediations/settlement conferences, pre-suit, post suit, pretrial, and post-trial
- Ability to work in a rapidly evolving, high-growth environment with the ability to collaborate across and within different levels of the organization
- Experience with large Fleets (250 ) with self-insured retentions and/or large deductibles
- Excellent communication skills (verbal/written) and strong negotiation skills
- Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to adapt, embrace the unknown, and shift priorities
- Willingness to look outside your day-to-day to ensure you keep learning and growing in a startup environment
- 5 years of Commercial Auto claims experience; trucking preferred
- Active Adjusters License - strongly preferred
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
