POSITION SUMMARY :
The New Product Development (NPD) Engineer supports Head Rush Technologies’ plan to successfully launch New Product Initiatives. Their work ensures that the New Product Initiative meets all specifications, certification, and other requirements as defined by the NPD process and that the project remains on schedule and budget. The NPD Engineer creates, completes, and / or manages First Article Inspections, Verification Testing Regimens, Component / Assembly Design Iterations, Test Reports, Technical Drawing Releases / Updates, GD&T Strategy, and other tasks defined by the NPD process. This position works within the cross-functional New Product Development Team and reports to the Product Engineering Manager.
The NPD Engineer position requires a self-starter with a minimum 5 years of experience developing consumer products from concept thru production and aftermarket support. Experience working with overseas vendors, ODM contractors, compliance regulations, and / or developing consumer products for the EU market is a plus. Working knowledge of material properties / selection, designing and testing mechanical assemblies, and manufacturing processes including metal forging, plastic injection molding, and CNC machining is required. The position requires hands-on testing and evaluation of components, assemblies, and manufacturing processes. The ability to efficiently and creatively solve problems and manage multiple component schedules will be beneficial to this position.
This is a Full Time position reporting to the Product Engineering Manager, based in our Louisville, CO headquarters. The ability to reliably commute is required. Relocation assistance will not be offered for this position.
ESSENTIAL NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Objective / Measurement – Completion of assigned tasks within designated timeframe, established within annual action planning processes.
The ideal candidate possesses high mechanical aptitude with a broad range of expertise and the ability to effectively navigate all stages of the New Product Development process. Climbing and / or work at height experience is a plus.
- Design, develop, and test mechanical components and assemblies for New Product Initiatives, including generation of 2D / 3D drawings, BOMs, schematics, process flow diagrams, test reports, etc.
- Create / Maintain / Manage controlled documents utilizing PDM (Solidworks) software
- Manage projects as per the NPD schedule
- Collaborate with the cross-functional NPD Team to make critical decisions related to the New Product Initiative
- Perform First Article Inspections, recommend design / process changes, and develop vendor capabilities
- Work with Supply Chain to procure prototype / sample / production components and develop vendor relationships
- Perform or organize Verification Testing of New Product samples
- Develop and support Manufacturing Plan for in-house assembly and qualification testing
- Complete testing and documentation to obtain CE Certification and / or meet other regulatory requirements
- Develop customer facing documentation including Operator Manuals, Service Manuals, and Troubleshooting Guides
- Occasional travel to vendors and / or end user locations for on-site validation testing
