Home Visitor needed for the Sixpence program in partnership with Grand Island Public Schools. Responsible for home visits and group activities in areas of early childhood education.
Full-time position, year-round. Bilingual applicants preferred. Wage is $22.92/hour
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Human Services, or related field
This position requires an individual with demonstrated knowledge in early childhood education and the principles of child health, safety and nutrition. The successful applicant must also understand adult learning principles and family dynamics, and be skilled in motivating people. The successful applicant will have the ability to be an advocate for families and provide appropriate input to aid in decision-making. This position requires an individual who is comfortable visiting the homes of low-income families, and is sensitive to individuals and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain contact with assigned Sixpence families, including phone contacts and home visits. Meet with families in their homes on a regular basis and maintain regular contact with each assigned family, in accordance with program guidelines.
- Teach parenting classes, develop and implement other parent related educational activities and opportunities.
- Conduct a family assessment with each family. Identify family needs and develop a family action plan. Update and modify family action plans as needed.
- Assist families reach goals and deal with issues of concern through effective problem solving and building on family strengths.
- Facilitate evaluation of all children participating in the Sixpence program, based upon parental input, observation and developmental screenings. Update evaluations as needed. Refer children with possible developmental and/or behavioral delays to the Early Childhood Specialist.
- Become knowledgeable of community and program resources available to families. Assist families with referrals to other community services and provide information to educate families in the areas of child safety, child development and health issues, as well as any other issues of concern to parents.
