What are the responsibilities and job description for the Osceola Head Start Teacher Assistant - Bilingual Preferred position at Head Start?
SCICAP Early Childhood Program is seeking a professional bilingual candidate to serve as a Teacher Assistant in our Osceola Head Start location. The Teacher Assistant supports the teacher in planning, implementing, and maintaining a nurturing and supportive educational program for participating children. Duties will include providing assistance to all classroom activities, documenting student progress and parent communications, monitoring the safety of students and other duties as needed.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR CLASSROOM
· Support and monitor classroom activities to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, SCICAP Policies and Procedures
· Provide assistance to all daily classroom activities
o Assist the teacher in preparing, developing and arranging the materials that serve as motivation for the child’s self-development as directed
o Assist the teacher in all learning areas
o Be aware of behaviors and monitor the classroom to assist in minimizing behaviors
o Be aware of maintaining child/staff ratio at all times (Staff ratio pages 70-75 of the State Licensing Regulations
· Attend all necessary meetings and trainings
· Provide an educational environment
o Be engaged with students
o Lead activities as needed
o Ask open ended questions throughout the day
· Engage in conversations with students throughout all parts of the day
· Assist with all cleaning
· Fill out accident reports/BIR forms anytime you witness something
· Nutrition and Health Responsibilities
- Supervise meal times following the Performance Standards, Creative Curriculum and CACFP guidelines
- Role model tooth brushing with the children one (1) time daily
- Role model swishing with the children, one (1) time daily
- Be aware of and alert for Health and Safety issues at all times
· Work with all components of Head Start effectively and perform all duties as assigned by the teacher or teacher/director that is deemed necessary to the program success
· Evaluation will be completed annually
· Ability to travel within the agency area with occasional out of area trips
· Other duties as assigned by the Director of Programming
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Must be 18 years of age
· Must have current physical at beginning of employment
· No personal record regarding child abuse, sexual abuse and neglect
· Must pass criminal records check before employment (DCI) including FBI fingerprint check
EDUCATION
· High School Diploma or equivalent required, CDA preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently reaches with hands and arms, stand, walk and climb
· Employee must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds, climb stairs, pick up and move children and/or equipment
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus
· Employee must be able to sit on a child size chair or sit on the floor
